my day today in the clouds

I was walking around and happened to find myself in a store called, "Serendipity". It was a little gift shop that sold little trinkets and random things that you could, but normally wouldn't pay attention to, find somewhere else. It reminded me of Ye Old Curiosity Shop, back home on the pier. Boomerangs, tiny sculptures of fairies, and shot glasses filled the first few displays as I walked deeper into the shop that seemed to be hiding even more exotic thing-a-ma-jigs. The clerk looked like a young teenager who suddenly seemed intrigued at the sight of a customer. She was kinda cute too. I walked around the side of the shop, hoping to make a loop and maybe end up on the other side of the store where the cashier desk was. I figured as bored as I was, I'd try to make conversation to kill some time as my parents figured out where we were going to go next on our trip.

Me: Is it always this slow around here?

Her: We usually get more people on the weekends and this isn't the tourist season.

I was one of 4 other people in the shop.

Me: Do you go to school around here?

Her: Yeah, at the local community college. Where are you from?

Me: Seattle. I go to the university up there.

Her: Cool. So are you enjoying the clubs and bars here? ::she boogied a little and waved her arms while speaking::

Me: I'm actually here with my family, so... none of that is actually going to happen unfortunately...

Her: Oh, that sucks.

I then turned to scan my eyes over some stuff when I came across one of those orb filled with a city, or beach, or some other "Wish you were here" kind of place. The one that happened to catch my eye was the one of Seattle. It had most of the skyline of Seattle including, of course, the Space Needle.

Me: You ever been to Seattle?

Her: Nope. Doesn't it always rain there or something?

Me: Not as often as you might think. Nice place to live though. Very laid back, temperature is fairly moderate, and the summers are really nice. On the other hand, it isn't exactly an exciting city. Not a lot of clubs or even a night life. It's definately a more... mild city, like the weather.

Her: Doesn't sound like my kind of place, I love it here with the hot weather and wild people here. I meet a lot of wild tourists too.

Me: ::smirk:: Ha, sounds fun.

I picked up another orb, one of a beach with a little palm tree in it. I shook it and a huge mist of shiny particles flew up in the orb.

Me: Aren't the beaches supposed to always be clear? ::holding up the beach orb::

Her: Hah, sometimes we get heavy rains too. It's not always this pretty. You going to buy those for someone?

I looked at the orb of Seattle in my right hand, then of the one of the beach in my left. I had always wanted one with my hometown. Not to mention if I got tired of it, I could give it as a gift to one of my relatives in Hong Kong or something. Yeah, I know, I'm Asian. Are they going to know the difference after it has sat on my desk for a month?

Then the other orb sparkled and caught my eye. It was definately the little model bottle of Corona in the ice can next to the solo beach chair that did it.

Me: I think I'll get this one. My parents would like it.

I've chosen this for them.
