Summer days...
So summer school finally got out about 2 weeks ago and summer officially began. So far it's been alright. Took a family trip up to Canda. This time it was longer than 1-2 days. We stayed a record of 4 days =O. Well I think we stayed longer that time we went only to Whistler, but this time just felt long. We hung around the Richmond area the first day, ate some good food, and did a little shopping. Next day we left for Whistler and walked around there. We didn't really have much of a purpose for going there so all we really did was look at what there was to do. During the summer they have stuff like ATV-ing, paintball (actually year round i think), 2 huge golf ranges/courses, kayaking, and other stuff. There was a bit of stuff to do, but we only stayed for one night. I don't really know why my parents wanted to go up to Whistler for 1 day... Anyway, we left Whistler the next day and drove back to Richmond where we ate some more good food, shopped some more and other typical canada trip stuff. And yea the next day was the same. I enjoy the food and the shopping, but really 3 days of it can be just a little repetitive. Especially when you're with your family...
Lately I've been into cars, like customizing them. I bought one of those Import Racer magazines and found it kinda cool. I'm not into completely changing a civic into a rice rocket, but I think that some small changes can make a nice car look even better. (note: I believe rice rockets are a waste of metal, gas, and my time since I usually go on ranting about how bad one looks when it drives by) Take for example my cousin, he's got a Lexus IS300 (i'm so jealous >_<) and he doesn't turn it into a rice rocket, but has little things that make it more personalized and distinguished than other ones. A new, simple, good looking front bumper, maybe a some slightly bigger rims, and tinted windows, can make a car look 100x better than the stock version. If I ever got a car, I'd probably want to change a few things to it too. Nothing really extravaggent, but stuff I see useful. Such as, perhaps, tinting my windows so I can drive carpool w/o actually having any passengers =D Or if I really had the cash to burn, buy completely new rims and tires. I'd get slightly larger wheels, b/c they add more surface area to the tires, thus improving speed as well as braking. A nice sound system would be nice too, although that would probably be the priciest of anything I would change. That's if it didn't come with a decent one already. I'm really digging my cousin's in-dash 6 CD Changer thats in many Toyota/Lexus cars now. I wonder if any other company makes those to be installed. I'll have to check up on it later. Alas, my dreams will have to wait as my car is not worth changing. Sorry to dissappoint anyone who wanted to see a suped up 1992 Volvo 740 station wagon, but I'm surely not going to be the first to disgrace myself with that title.
I have a few new HK movies so I'll have to watch em and give some reviews. There are a few new other movies that I want to see, but I dunno when I'll see them. Napoleon Dynamite being one of them. Well, that's it for now.
because this blog service isn't that great
My last post got cut off at the end... so I guess here's the last paragraph again with an ending.
Gossip update on the QFC, if you're queer like that. So if you hadn't heard from before, we lost 2 managers. One got promoted to another department and was relocated to Massachusetts. Another wrote some weird letter to one of our teen clerks b/c he had some weird affection for her and now is relocated with some restraining order or some whacked thing. We've been losing checkers left and right, some probably because of the impending worry of a strike, others who have other jobs and decided that they've had enough of the shit that QFC dishes out. We're understaffed like crazy, but I don't think my boss will promote me because we actually need people to work my position. Oh, and the new managers. The new head guy (#1) is supposedly one of the guys who wrote the book on QFC presentation or some messed up thing like that. So he's pretty strict on stuff that we normally didn't care about before. Now, he makes the clerks go through checklists to make sure they do everything. The other new manager (#3) seems cool, but he's still not broken in, the South Mercer Island way. Where everything is laid back because we're just chill that way =P. Along with mangers and some checkers, we also just lost the only other guy clerk, meaning I'm the only guy out of a total of 4 clerks left at the store. Why can't life get better for me? >_< Supposedly a new guy was just hired but from what the girl clerks tell me, he's not exactly the hard working type. I'm not looking forward to working here anymore u_u; At least before there were more cooler people to talk with and work along side with, but now only the weird, the dumb, and the teenage girls are left. Part of me wants to quit this job and try to pursue a job somewhere else. Problem with this is that looking for another job is very tough and it's very unlikelyI'll get this wage somewhere else. I think I have a greater chance and waiting for promotion than looking for a better job. The other part of me tells me to just stick it out and wait for that promotion because I'm living at home anyway, and continuing this life will be painful, but bearable. I need the money b/c my parents have pretty much cut cash flow to me except for 1) school stuff 2) food (only when i eat with them) and 3) the occassional item of clothing. I also really want to move into an apartment, but that in itself poses even more problems. 1) Need a roomate, 2) need the cash to move there, and 3) need to find a better job to support all that. I'm feeling impending doom also because my summer finals are coming up, and I haven't got much to look up at lately. My future looks bleak. Now if I could only find a way to travel off to an alternate world to take my mind of things while I sleep...
Yay for double whammy's!
I have 2 movie reviews! Both of which, I guess I could recommend... for very different reasons and audiences. I saw Aliens vs Predator last night (opening night I think) with some friends at the Galleria after bball. Just now, I watched Secret Window starring Johnny Depp. I'll review the two and then give a little heads up on my life b/c I know people are dying to know what exciting things are happening.
So what compelled me to see this movie? Was it the praise and popularity that surrounded Aliens movies before? Was it my yearning to see the predator kick some ass? Or was it just that my friend David pushed this movie so much that I just decided that I would see what all his fuss was all about. It was definately a roll of all three reasons, but the last one capped it off. The skinny: A group of scientists, paleontologists, archeologists, etc, discover a hidden ancient temple structure beneath the surface of Antarctica and race off to be the first ones to claim stake on this supposed historic landmark. Little did they know that this temple was actually a battle ground for Aliens and Predators. So I will really try to be generous with this review instead of driving it into the dirt where it belongs. I did enjoy the fabulously done costume and CGI work with both Aliens and Predators. Action was decently done. Story... story? I'm just going to stop there. Humor? NONSTOP!! What was actually funny about this movie, was how funny it turned out to be! About the entire latter half of the movie, was just all laughable. There were times when I pretty much forgot the last time I heard this much laughing at a theatre because the entire audience was laughing their socks off. (This may have been due to a large group of guys that used to all play in band from my high school that were just having their own good time, laughing at most moments) But don't misunderstand me, this movie was very funny. From warrior chicks, to running with fire behind them, the absurdity of this movie doesn't stop. Should I have paid the full price seeing this at night? Hell no, but it was semi-redeemed by the fact that the rest of the audience and I could share a laugh together. Should you watch this movie now that it's in theatres? Only if you're 1) a crazyass fan of Aliens or Predators, 2) are going with a group of friends that are looking for a good laugh and don't mind paying the price for it, or 3) are bored out of your skull this summer like I was and decided, what the heck, I can't wait for the next good movie to come out. Will I ever watch this movie again? I'll be damned if I ever hear of this movie again!
Note: I'm still open to chat about this movie if you do want to rant about it more with me so don't let my review scare you out of talking about this travesty with me.
Now moving onto something I can actually call a film... Secret Window was something I can actually live with and recommend whole heartedly to anyone. Johnny Depp delivers another outstanding performance after his academy award for Pirates last year. The skinny: Johnny Depp plays Mort Rainey, a successful writer who has just recently filed for divorce with his wife because she is with another man. Rainey lives in solitude in a lake cabin until one day he is visited by a strange man who claims that Rainey stole a story he wrote from him. Depps does an extraordinary job with his role, showing how a real starving artist* lives. I can't really go into much detail of describing the movie, after all, it is a suspense/thriller movie that must be watched in entirety to have its affects.
*SPOILER ALERT*I guess I'll go into more detail now for those of you who either don't want to watch the movie, or have already watched it. First of all, I know Depp was crazy for a while but the fact that he didn't get the magazine for the longest time was very annoying. Yeah, he was crazy and it wouldn't have done anything, but such a prime piece of part of the story was just plain vexing. Second, how on earth did Depp clean his house at the end of the movie so quickly? @_@ I mean man all those markings on the walls and broken furniture.Third, I think this movie really takes a back seat to another psycho film that I don't want to note but it has to do with one Mr. Norton and one Mr. Pitt. *SPOILER END*
I would recommend this film to anyone who likes the suspense/mystery genre and anyone who likes Johnny Depp(b/c you get a lot of him). All in all, I'll just have to leave it at, Johnny Depp is a solid actor.
Note: Sorry, that ending really sucked, I just got tired at the end. =P
Aside from the occassionaly movie, my life has just been comprised of my CSE class, my classics class, and work. This last CS project is driving me nuts. Classics is turning out alright, although I kinda wish I had done this one extra credit... Work sucks. Oh, this I do have more to rant about, kinda.
