Summer's end...

Well I think I finally have something blogworthy to share with everyone for once. That and 2 movie reviews =X

I'll start with a review of Aliens vs Predator. Why the hell I'm reviewing this movie can also be followed by the question of why the hell did I even see this movie because the movie pretty much flopped. It's present day Earth and some archeologists discover an underground ruin in the middle of Antarctica. They form a team of scientists from various fields and decide to venture down to study this ruin that was hypothesized to date back to similar times as the Incas. Little did they know that the temple was actually a training ground for Predators who were going into their "manhood". Coincidentally at the same time, the Predators had just sent their warriors here to kill a temple full of Aliens. If they lived, they were honored, otherwise, everything near the temple would be wiped out with a huge blue blast. Now sure the plot line sounds somewhat intriguing if you're in to the whole sci-fi thing, but this movie was definately more focused on the action/graphics aspect. Although, I'm going to have to say, that regardless of their efforts, many of the scenes were just absurd as ever. Maybe it was the mass of students from my HS that were laughing at everything from the movie that made this movie better than it would've been without them. I can only say that if given the choice again, I would'nt have gone to see this movie at night... at the Galleria. I'm going to give this movie a gracious 3/10 simply because of the atmosphere that I watched it in. If you don't have to see this movie, don't. If you do, see it with a bunch of friends that know how to crack jokes.

The next movie I remember seeing (recently) was Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. The only thing as long as the title of this movie, is the list of plot holes that existed throughout the film. That being said, I would, strangly enough, also have to say that I did enjoy the movie. I believe this movie was based off an old 50's comic. The Skinny: The world is under attack by a mass of giant robots controlled from an unknown location. Enter Polly, a reporter for the city newspaper trying to get the big story by actually following the big robots around as they trash the city. The law cannot stop these machines, so the only other option is Sky Captain and his band of mercenaries in a base that's just outside of the city. Actors, Jude Law and Gweneth Paltrow carry their roles exceptionally, as expected. Angelina Jolie is alrite in her 15 minutes of the movie. I think that a lot of the comic was squeezed into this 106 minute movie so as expected, the movie moves through time like crazy. Although some may find the way the movie was made to be awkward and tough to watch, I think it really makes the movie unique in that it tries to emulate the old 50's movie. The movie wasn't black and white, but colors were definately faded and the contrast was high. I would rate this movie a 5/10. I wouldn't recommend this movie to just anyone. You would can't be to critical of this movie because all it tries to be, is a fun comic book film. I don't think many people know that, and disregard the horrid looking trailers, but if you don't expect much, you may end up coming out of this movie with a smile.

Now for the real stuff. Today... was quite a day I guess. Started off going with my cousin Fred to by our books for school. The bookstore was fairly empty, not busy at all. I hate how all these books are coming out with newer editions. Books are wayyy too expensive >_<. Afterwards we went to visit my cousin Jenn in her family's condo. We took Fred on a mini tour of the campus and then went to have lunch in Chinatown. Had some good food at a cheap price. After we took Jenn home, we went to the IMA to work out and play some bball. As we walked in, I noticed that the Nate Robinson was playing on the court. We shot around while we watched him play with random teams. I could tell he was just messin' around but even so, his team was always the dominant one. Not only b/c he was on it, but everyone else on his team was pretty big. So being the randomly, adventerous person I am, I decided to walk over and play the next game. Hey, I knew from the moment I walked on that we would get dominated. Boy... was that game fast. I can't say I played well, but at least I can say I got to play with Nate Robinson. Seeing him play is pretty cool. What was even cooler was after he stole the ball from me (lol) I saw him do a huge one handed jam on a fast break. I had persued him down the court, but halfway I thought, wait, this is Nate Robinson, why are you even running after him? So I just stopped and he dunked. He was doing off the back board dunks and behind hte back passes. =D... It was like watching those street ballers play. That game, strangly enough, made my day. After that we went to lift some weights and that was it.

I do not feel excited for school to start at all... But I also feel like going back to school will make my days more productive. Ok, I've run out of stuff to blog about. Out.

quick rant

Sad day today... I went to work, and found out that the last of the 4 managers that were present when I was hired, had gotten switched to a different store last week. This was probably the manager I liked the most, although he was probably the least significant in my job since he was the 4th Manager(every QFC has 4 managers 1 through 4, the First Manager being the top guy of the store). Regardless of that, he taught me many lessons in the work world that I will remember forever. I will miss him because I had really gotten used to his direction, motivation, and strangely enough, his orthodox work ethic. When the rest of the store was laid back, he was working hard and keeping everyone else in line. When time ran low, he was our coxswain who motivated us. Now I have to get used to these new managers... The new 4th (I usually work with the 4th manager in the back since I'm a helper clerk(stocker)) seems only a few years older than me, and looks way too young to be doing what he's doing. I learned just from one day that he didn't go to college, has a decent sized ego, has the exact opposite type of work ethic than my old 4th manager (could be good i guess), he really isn't ready for his job, and his look reminds me of an overgrown kid. He's cool though, a fun guy. I just hope it doesn't hurt my work. Well, I think I've ranted enough. Come visit me at the South Mercer QFC if you're in the area!
