more luck/karma issues

So this quarter has been really a rollercoaster ride. It started off alright, everything was pretty much what I expected... Engl was gonna be a bit of work, Econ wasn't, and another quarter of ochem w/ raucher was hopefully gonna be bearable... Man was I wrong midway through the quarter.

English turned out to be a very interesting class with with my TA and all the troubles/writer's block I had before in HS with writing papers (engl was probably my worst and most dreaded topics in HS) didn't seem to bother me anymore. I actually found myself able to write half decent papers for college english!! I surprised even myself. =) Econ is an interesting class, albeit the first half was really boring. It's starting to get more interesting, but at the same time a lot more confusing so I have to stay awake in class more... -_o I guess it paid off to look up on CEC for the good TA's.. ;D Ochem, was actually a lot worse this quarter. Sure, I thought it'd be the same stuff 3rd quarter in a row. Only difference is, raucher became more of a douchebag with his stupid tests and he started moving and covering material like there's no tomorrow. He would wade through a 50 page chapter in like 2 days. I guess I should've expected it since all of ochem is pretty much the same stuff, but I didn't bother to give it enough attention. Unfortunately that kinda came back to bite me in the arse.

So after starting on a decently high note, the quarter slipped into the depths of misery and all-bad-things; and I mean almost everything went bad for me. This is the period of time that econ started getting confusing, when I fell behind majorly in ochem reading, and ochem lab just started kicking my ass left and right. I mean, I even tried to play some video games to relax and I must have gone on like a 10-15 game losing streak within that span of like 2-3 weeks. The only redeeming things that happened in that time, were playoff basketball (which eventually also fell b/c the sonics got taken out), friday night basketball, my HS friend from NY visiting, and finding a great new friend in my lab partner.

So now, today, things have suddenly sort of turned around... Booted up the video game again when I was bored and managed to win 2 straight, even when I had to be afk for a few minutes in both games... @_@;; I have started to pick up the pace on ochem, and not to mention ochem lab is FINALLY OVER!!! well not quite, but very close. On the other hand (you know karma/luck is always a 2 way street) the Phx Suns are getting their asses handed to them on a silver platter by the SA Spurs and I just played probably the worst basketball I've ever played tonight at the IMA. So... moral of the story? Try praying to your God(s) everynow and then to improve your own karma. =P I just hope that all of you are doing alright with your ups and downs of life. If anyone needs someone to talk to, I'm always here to lend a listening ear.

terrible luck

I have the worst luck in lab... I've broken my second glass item already >_<;; I guess the only good to be found is that they were both cheap... =/ But my bad luck doesn't stop there. I was not able to make any derivatives for my amine unknown, so I was unable to support my decision on which compound my unknown was. I've also been getting points knocked off for some of the dumbest things. I said that my IR shows that I have a carboxylic acid, and my TA write's, "what evidence from IR?" U_U!??!?!!? As a chemist he should know exactly what the carboxylic acid peak on an IR when he see's it >_<; It's the most blatant and obvious peak on the entire IR... *sigh*

On a happier note, I'm finally gonna do some more hanging out and go to this saturday's TSA Night Market on campus. Should be good fun with lotsa friends and lotsa food. I hope to see you there!!

So what's new...

Another quarter is about to fly by.... again. Sometimes I think I miss my old classes and wish they would continue longer, other quarters I can't wait until they end... This quarter is probably one of those that I wish would move a little slower. I'm enjoying my classes and the people I see in them, the only thing that I'm not enjoying however, are the labs right now... My blasted amine derivative (::nerd alert::) didn't come out and I have less than a lab period to figure out what the heck my amine unknown is. I'm having pretty bad luck lately in that class and I dunno what's up. But the time that passes is fun because of the people I get to work with. =D Econ and Engl are kinda boring so far but I heard econ is supposed to have some more interesting topics later. We just got into the highway system problem. In Engl we just started talking about the french philosopher Foucault and he's quite an interesting guy. Albeit his text is a little difficult to read because it was intially written in french, then translated, but the guy's (Foucault) wording was already very difficult to piece together so combined it makes for a read that demands attention to detail.

I've been going to the IMA about once a week so far this quarter after one of my labs during the week and I think it's been a good thing so far. I mean I get to play more basketball, work out, and not sit in traffic so the pluses are apparent. Only drawback I guess is that sometimes I forget the time and don't get home until 10, which means I don't leave much time for anything, but luckily that's only happened once. ;)

I'm looking forward to Episode 3 coming out later this month, but I dunno when I'm going to be able to see it. I probably won't see it the first weekend it comes out because it'll be packed with all the super fans. If I wait a few weeks, I'll have finals very soon so... can't really see it then either. Gonna have to do some micromanagement with my schedule sometime. I just hope that it doesn't bomb like the first two episodes. I mean they had some decent action, but the cheesiness and... I guess the way they tried to make it suitable for kids to watch by making it less... intense, as episodes 4-6. The trailer looks awesome though.

I dunno if I've mentioned it before, but anyone who hasn't seen Kung Fu Hustle, MUST SEE IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. This is probably the best HK flick to come out since Shaolin Soccer. It would make sense since it's the same guy who made both films. I guess I'll give a mini review now. Stephen Chow returns in this flick, set in the 50's of China, although it's reminiscent of the 1920's of US, in his universal role of an underdog turned #1 dawg. What's the premise for this typical role of Stephen Chow? If there's one thing that Stephen knows, it's how to attract viewers. Since this is also a film that was going to be released in America, you've got to attract teh viewers there. What sells to the american audience from asia? That's right, kung fu. Stephen is a bum trying to get into the infamous Axe Gang and make a name for himself. He tries to do various things from stealing, killing, and even just plain bullying to try to make himself a worthy gangster. Unfortunately for him, those aren't his strong points. Now enter Pig Stye Alley: a place that is more than meets the eye, looks nothing more than your 3rd world village. But hiding as what appear to be normal civilians are kung fu masters, trying to just pass by in life without notice. Combine these two pieces and bam! you've got yourself a great movie waiting to happen, especially with Stephen Chow at the helm. I'd recommend this film to anyone looking who is open to foriegn movies and likes comedies. I'd also tell some people to be wary and keep an open mind though as foreign movies tend to be very different than american movies. All in all, I'd rate this movie a 8/10. Only thing I didn't like about it, was the pointless love story line behind the main story. The girl is pretty hot though, so props to Stephen Chow for finding a foxy parallel.

Hrm, this week there's gonna be a Bite of Asia thing going on on the Hub lawn on Wed. I'm thinking of going, so if anyone wants to grab lunch on Wed at the Hub, gimme a ring. Also, this Sat evening is gonna be a TSA night market thing. I'm not part of TSA but I figure I'm just gonna go, grab some food and hang out with some friends. Gimme a ring if you're also interested in going with. I'm out.
