The new 007 and snow!
Since I haven't written in a while, I thought I'd start off with a good old movie review as I just saw Casino Royale this past weekend. I was looking forward to this movie quite a bit because the trailers looked pretty awesome. I learned later that it was actual a remake of a very old Bond movie that kinda got forgotten about over time.
I'll start off by saying that this Bond movie is a little different from all the other Bond movies that we movie-goers are used to seeing. First of all, the new James Bond, played by Daniel Craig who did a very good job, is a lean mean killing machine in this movie. In previous Bond movies, I've always seen Bond as a sophisticated and strategically saavy secret agent (say that 5 times fast). From the opening scene, we see that this is a different kind of Bond than we have watched in all the old movies. For better or worse, whatever the matter, the end product was pretty good I'd have to say. People looking for action will definately find intense, thrilling, make you sit up , eye opening (or closing for some people) of high octane action here. The first chase scene was pretty insane and definately a memorable part of the movie. The explosions throughout the movie were plentiful so those looking for that will get their share.
One essential aspect of every Bond movie is the infamous Bond girl. Here Vesper Lynd, played by Eva Green, is the beautiful accountant who must accompany Bond on his mission to stop the terrorists. She's definately one of the more elegant looking Bond girls and in my opinion one of the prettiest. I didn't watch the one with Halle Berry but I heard she was good. Denise Richards was hot, but common... nuclear physicist? No. Michelle Yeoh was pretty good in her role, although she did way more action stuff than all other previous Bond girls did combined. Izabella Scorupco from Goldeneye was probably the last classic formed Bond girl. She was pretty, but not hot; elegant when needed to be. Intelligent by association of job at first, but later proves to be helpful to Bond in certain situations. These are just my own ideas, but take them as you will and leave the rest.
Another essential Bond-movie-component is the gadgets he utilizes. In every movie, Q comes up with some crazy-cool invention that Bond gets to play around with while fighting the baddies. They range from explosive pens, to magnetic watches, to cellphone controlled cars, tiny breathing devices, and of course, the car. This was completely ABSENT from this movie! Yes there was the pretty car (a very amazing car I might add) but it doesn't do justice if it's just in the movie for 30 seconds! I just have to say that this was probably the dissappointing part of the movie.
All in all, I found this movie to be very enjoyable and highly recommend it to everyone. The plot moves around quite a bit so that combined with the actions leaves for a movie that will never leave a dull second. The movie does end on somewhat of an odd number, but I think it was more for the character effect than anything else. From suspenseful chases on top of construction buildings to beautiful women, this Bond movie has pretty much everything. Go watch it now before it's out of theatres! For the sake of some people, I guess I'll rate it an 8/10. Sounds about right.
In other news, ITS FRIGGIN SNOWING!!! On the flip side, UW WON'T CLOSE UNTIL THE BLUE MOON COMES OUT... *sigh* Instead of saving people's time and lives... all the students must endanger their lives in the icy environment to travel to their 3-4 classes at the UW. I dunno about you, but after having driven on ice and almost dying... I'm pretty paranoid of going out in this weather. Don't get me wrong, I love the winter and the snow. It's just that the school needs to be closed. I can't wait until I get to snowboard... Hey if any of YOU go, let me know!! Ok, I think that's enough for now, back to paper!
